Introducing Rachel: Our Weekly Woman Entrepreneur

Meet Rachel, founder of, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire and organize teens to provide ongoing complimentary beauty makeovers and companionship to elderly women living in senior homes.

Where is the most interesting place your business has ever taken you?
On to the Oprah Show!  It played over and over again for a couple of years!  It was great PR considering we were so new!

What is the best lesson you could give a young women who wants to start her own business?

Make sure it is unique.  Do the research before and honestly make sure that your “dream” idea has not already happened.  It will be much easier when you go to pitch and your idea is TRULY unique.

What do you wish you had known when you started your own business?
How much paperwork there might be and although maybe not always completing it yourself.  Making sure you UNDERSTAND what is being completed.

How do you stay calm when your business stresses you out?
Take a walk or join a gym!  You will not only feel great but look great!

Do you have any funny, inspiring or noteworthy client or business anecdotes?
My first conference call with my board was on a pay telephone in a broom closet in college.  They had no idea but it was the quietest place between classes.
