Fortune Summit Brings Female Entrepreneurs to New Heights

Fortune Magazine and American Express OPEN have selected 10 female small-business entrepreneurs to take part in the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit happening in Washington, D.C. next week from October 4th-6th. The Summit, now in its 12th year, gathers together 400 of the world’s most prominent women in the fields of business, government, philanthropy, education and the arts for interactive panel discussions, interviews, and other activities. This year’s theme, “Building a Legacy”, lends a sense of determined grandeur to the scope, vision, and ambitions of the Summit .  Some notable attendees will include Tory Burch, Co-founder and Creative Director of Tory Burch, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Andrea Jung Chairman and CEO Avon Products, Inc. In addition, President Obama is slated to speak at the conference.

While the Summit itself enjoys over a decade of history; the program that handpicks up-and- coming female business leaders to join the event is only in its second year. The process targets women who are game changers, ground-breakers and pioneering innovators.  This year’s finalists hail from a range of states (Texas, Maryland, California, New York) and disciplines with a construction group, online stationary merchant, and a retro and vintage clothing company among their ranks. The interactions between these small business owners and their larger, more established counterparts help make the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit the premiere gathering for women leaders across the globe. Together, they forge a path composed of lessons in leadership, reputation, mentoring and ultimately extending power to make a positive difference in the world.
